Nietzsche told us ‘That which does not kill us makes us stronger’.  Keeping this quote in mind, ENLIGHTENMENT returns with greater enthusiasm, more articles and a new website for the August Edition.

By the time of this editions launch we would stand witnessing some truly historic events. From the first  pictures of the former planet Pluto by the New Horizon probe to the heated debate on society’s right to sentence a man to death. This edition has also seen the loss of perhaps India’s most loved and respected President: Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam. While he has passed on, his legacy and ideas in the form of his books continue to provide guidance to us on country, society, ethics and science.

For this month’s edition, we have a superb range of articles, reviews and activities. As following tradition, the Writers Corner section is a mixture of articles by the Enlightenment team as well as submissions from the readers covering a variety of topics from a travel log of the picturesque Andaman and Nicobar islands, contrasted by a not so picturesque article on Faridabad, a poem about optimism, a look at a daughter’s love for her mother and an eulogy to the People’s President: Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam. The Science & Tech section introduces the exciting capabilities of 3 D printing and some must have tools to boost up your productivity.

Also let’s be honest- Indians love weddings, especially a big fat one, well most Indians do. And so we have compiled a collection of the most bizarre wedding invitation cards, hopefully to provide some innovative ideas to our own L&Ties. To exercise your brain muscles, The Hardest Logic puzzle is included under the Fun section- Even Alexander the Great would have to think his way out of this one.  For the foodie in all of us, there is a tantalizing review of Café Lota under the review section which also reviews a Classic book ‘Swami and Friends’.

With India approaching her 68th Independence day, we urge all citizens to strive for a better Society, Country and World by being better individuals.

Be the change that you wish to see in the world.

-Mahatma Gandhi
