Indian Accent – Restaurant Review

Indian Accent is one of the few restaurants in New Delhi which has a rating of above 4.5 – in fact, it is a whopping 4.9 on 5 point scale on Zomato!

The New Delhi and New York based restaurant is the only restaurant in India to feature in the World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2016, Indian Accent has been awarded the San Pellegrino Best Restaurant Award in India by Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2016 for the second consecutive year. It has also been rated as the No.1 restaurant in India by TripAdvisor for 2014, 2015 and 2016.*


Indian Accent is the brainchild of Chef Manish Mehrotra, a name to be reckoned with in the Indian culinary world. Many may recognize him as a guest chef from Masterchef India.

The restaurant is located at The Manor in New Friends Colony. An unassuming hotel tucked away in the upper class neighbourhood; the ambience, and service is anything but. The décor, cutlery and even the attire of the servers are simple yet elegant – allowing the food to talk for itself. And it does not just talk, it sings!

The menu has a variety of starters to choose from. The main course is fairly limited, as is expected from fine dining. (Fussy eaters can have limited options to choose from).


We kicked off our meal with a few starters – a potato chaat with white pea ragda, some puchkas served with Calcutta jhal potato and an assortment of waters; and mirchi kebabs stuffed with goat cheese. At first glance, these sound a like the fares one may get from the roadside vendors. These however, are infused with ingredients from across the world which enhances the local flavours!


For the main course, the Mumbai inspired pao bhaji is a must try. It comes with a ricotta vada and kafir lime butter pao. Along with the pao bhaji, baked makai palak in makhani curry too is worth a try. Subtle yet rich flavours!

Their bread bar has a healthy mix of traditional indian breads and some signature breads like wild mushroom kulcha, chili hoisin duck kulcha, and my favourite, camembert and bhuna potato kulcha. Fresh from the oven/tandoor, they’re all melt in the mouth!

Dining at Indian Accent is an experience in itself. The servers are attentive and have in depth knowledge of preparation of each dish, and every morsel of food is delightful. Given it is a fine dining restaurant, it is suggested this place be reserved for celebrating special occasions. A meal for two (including cocktails) could set you back by Rs.4000-5000/-. However, it is completely worth it.
