As we go about living our lives, what is it that drags us down? Why are we tense about anything and everything? Why do we often find ourselves in unmanageable situations? To answer these questions, three questions on a much larger scale arise. Is it because we are not capable enough? Do we lack the ability to manage ourselves? Is the world is too tough a place to figure out?
We all know the solution to our problems, but somehow we believe less in it than we should or are a tad bit lazy to chase it. We often go after things which were never ours in the first place and dream of things which were not quite meant to be. We are always told during our grooming stages to dream big and never settle for less and more often than not we don’t achieve what we planned from the outset. There are people who would claim they are happy though they have not achieved much and have gone through immense pain. The key takeaway here is that they always wanted to work hard, though success would have been the cherry on the cake, but what they earned through this process of working hard is pure gold in the process of self-development. As they say ‘old is gold and old is experience, so experience is gold’.
I can still remember during my childhood, participating in any small competition in our housing society would bring immense joy to me. Today when I win a major competition or lead at something it, never brings me the same form of satisfaction I used to feel back then. The reason is our hunger to do and achieve more without being content of what we have at that moment. Imagine if we could just pause the little moments without thinking much ahead about the future and just scrap all the external factors that halt us from having a peaceful state of mind. Sometimes unwinding can do wonders as you figure out that the path you took off on was all wrong in the first place.
Dreaming big is never wrong because if there were no legends that had a dream vision, we would never have the world we have today. But all these great people never did it in one go; everyday was a sense of satisfaction for them which motivated them to keep at it and get the results. If they never believed in their vision and their daily effort they would have just perished silently as everyone else.
The best learning from the legends is that there is no point in life at which you can say, “Well, I’m successful now. I might as well take a nap.” If it is made a never ending cycle, the more you taste it, the more you want it. Success never guarantees happiness but by setting short term goals, you realize the reason for which you are doing all the hard work, and that does make you happy. But don’t be too hard on yourself. Take the much needed break when required, just live one day at a time and see where it goes.
Don’t wait until everything is just right as it is never going to be perfect. There will always be challenges, obstacles and less than perfect conditions. So what? Get started now. With each step you take, you will grow stronger and stronger, more skilled, more self-confident and more satisfied.
SO AMIGOS, LIVE ONE DAY AT TIME!
